Troop 444 meets most Mondays from 7:30 – 8:30 PM at Arapaho United Methodist Church at Coit and Arapaho, our chartered organization. Boys lead this Troop – they plan and run their own meetings, decide on troop activities, where to camp and what to see and do. Experienced adult Scouter's motivate, mentor and oversee the boys, ensuring they safely develop skills and gain knowledge that will last them a lifetime.

TROOP 444 ACTIVITIES – Boy Scouts choose, with careful oversight/enablement provided by Scouters!

Monthly Campouts (compatible with busy schedules!): Troop 444 camps monthly Sept – Nov, and Jan – May. These regular monthly campouts generally depart Saturday morning around 8:00 AM, and return around 1 PM Sunday. Fishing, swimming, climbing, hiking, bike rides, geocacheing and Capture the Flag are all activities the boys enjoy.

Merit Badge/Trail to First Class Campout: Early in each new year we plan a 2-night campout with available weather protection that helps new Scouts focus on “Trail to First Class”. All Scouts can participate on merit badges like Personal Management, Plumbing, and Photography.

Summer Camp: in early June, Troop 444 spends a week at Summer Camp, typically at Circle 10 camps (Constantin, Cherokee or James Ray). Fun away from Mom and Dad is the order, with a healthy curriculum of rank advancement and merit badge classes (archery, shotgun, riflery, canoeing, swimming, boating, skiing and much more), plus fishing, swimming and other outdoor activities. Have you ever been “Blobbed”?

High Adventure: besides summer camp the Troop typically goes on a mid-summer High Adventure trip and/or trek to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. In addition to a 90 mile Philmont trek for older boys, this past summer’s event was a week at a BSA camp in Arkansas.

Other Activities: in the Summer, the Troop arranges casual fun activities every other week that the boys enjoy, like a lock-in, going to a Roughriders baseball game in Frisco, or playing Whirly Ball or Laser Tag. In December, instead of a campout, the Troop has a day outing, such as orienteering with the North Texas Orienteering Association. Some boys may also choose to go to Winter Camp during the holidays.

Service Projects: the Troop traditionally teams with Pack 585 for the annual Scouting for Food drive in February each Troop 444 Service Workyear, benefiting local charities. Troop 444’s Eagle Scout candidates plan, organize and execute significant community service Eagle Projects, enlisting the aid of younger Scouts in execution. We also serve AUMC’s needs on an ad hoc basis.

COST: The Troop’s annual dues are $100, and the boys need their own uniform and personal camping gear (the Troop owns its tents and cooking gear). Monthly campouts usually require $8-$10 for food, and Summer Camp runs about $185. Troop fundraisers (holiday greenery, popcorn, Scout Show tickets) allow the boys to pay all or part of their own way – profits go directly into their own account to cover dues, summer camp, etc.
